About Our Editor
Hello,
My name is Pat Shelly. I’m the Director of Community Engagement and Expansion at UBSSW. In addition to blogging, I also manage the school’s Twitter feed. I enjoy developing macro social work opportunites for MSW students, including advocacy work in Albany and Washington D.C. Since its inception in 2020, I am a member of the school’s Racial Justice Network.
To give you a bit of my background, I received my MSW in 1995 and my clinical specialization was in the area of gender-based violence. I worked at a sexual assault crisis service for a decade, as a systems advocate, also providing survivor support in hospitals and courts, and as an educator and trainer. I’ve served as a volunteer board member for three non-govermental organizations, and for a number of years I had a private psychotherapy practice.
SocialWorkSynergy, with its focus on trauma, human rights, and antiracist social work, is a natural extension of both my personal and professional interests and experience.
Please join me in this venture by sharing your thoughts, feedback on posts and what you’d like us to cover in future articles.

Best,
Pat
Knowing that this blog is here and others in the field are doing gives me hope.
Hello Cassandra,
I would be interested in hearing just how this blog gives you hope!
